Pope & Meads is a precision engineering business based in Hertford. From machining and assembly to inspections and breakdown services, it’s been providing bespoke manufacturing solutions since 1953.

To get a feel for just how much we help them with their day-to-day Health & Safety management, we spoke to their Quality Manager, Rob Bennett.

Pointing them in the right direction

“I think that Health & Safety in general has been an issue here, and Citation have helped by providing us with an audit report every year, which focusses us on what we need to tackle in regards to Health & Safety,” Rob said.

A proactive approach

“Recently, we were actually visited by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) in regards to our metalworking fluids, but this was something that was already highlighted during our audit, so we’d already put actions in place to tackle it. This meant that we’d already addressed the problem with metalworking fluids before the HSE turned up.”

Rob spoke: “We use all of the services that Citation provide. They’ve given us an audit report, and they’ve helped with our fire risk assessments, PAT Testing and manual handling too. There’s not one service that we rate higher than another.”

“I’d say that definitely on a cost implication side of things, to replace Citation with somebody that’s got all the legal knowledge that they have in regards to Health & Safety and HR, and all the information they provide us with, would cost us a lot more than what we’re currently paying to be with Citation,” Rob said.

Our online platform, Atlas

Atlas is our very own online management platform, designed to simplify the way businesses approach their day-to-day compliance responsibilities – something Rob can certainly testify to.

He spoke: “I use the Atlas system a lot – primarily for all our risk assessments. All the machines that we’ve got come with quite a high level of risk, and so part of our Health & Safety management system is to generate risk assessments for every machine that we use here.”

So, would they recommend us?

“I’d definitely recommend Citation to other businesses. I think the service that we get from them is second to none, and I think the knowledge that they have in regards to Health & Safety and HR is invaluable,” Rob said.
