Ranns Construction – a family ran business – run a 24-hour emergency water main repair service. As well as this, they tender for construction work in their specialist areas on a daily basis.
The challenge
From keeping employees safe and happy, to winning new clients and looking after existing ones, Ranns have a lot to juggle – which is never an easy task.
Health & Safety compliance is a standard requirement when tendering for new contracts. But as you may or may not know, proving this kind of compliance can be complicated and time consuming – something Ranns were all too familiar with.
As Health & Safety and HR & Employment Law legislation became more and more complex for Ranns, it soon became apparent they were in need of extra knowledge and support to keep on top complicated compliance.
Re-training their management team, making sure they were kept in the legislation loop and maintaining documentation in-house didn’t make sense – management time could be spent much more wisely elsewhere to help run and grow their business.
The solution
To put an end to their problem, Ranns contacted us in 2012 and asked us to review their current systems – so we did just that.
One of our Health & Safety consultants carried out an in-depth Health & Safety audit of their premises, and then produced a detailed, bespoke inspection report. Our report outlined things like gaps in their existing Health & Safety system, and actions and recommendations to right their wrongs.
We also conducted a complete inspection of their Employment Law procedures, and provided all their employees with Contracts of Employment and employee handbooks.
When Ranns signed-up with us, they were given access to expert advice 24/7 with our advice line, training, tools, templates and much, much more.
The result
Our support and advice gives Ranns peace of mind 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, that their business is and will remain compliant.
Kathy Ranns, Contracts Manager at Ranns Construction, said:
“The service is excellent, the staff are brilliant and most importantly, we have peace of mind knowing that we are kept updated constantly with new legislation.”
“Having use of Citation Quality Marks and access to the quick and easy to use online systems enables us to do this in very little time. The risk assessment tool allows us to produce a risk assessment in a matter of minutes and having the end result displayed in a pictorial format is like a dream come true when it comes to ensuring all of our workers on site read and understand each assessment.”
